Fun Activities for Autumn

Fall is here, and this is a great season for families to spend time together outdoors. Here are some fun activities that you can enjoy with your children on autumn weekends.

Jump in a pile of leaves together. Have fun just making a mess with each other. You'll probably find some great photo opportunities here, so have your camera nearby. And save a few colorful leaves to keep with your photos as a memento.

Go bobbing for apples. Introduce your kids to this old fashioned game. Get a big tub and fill it with water and apples. Then see which of your children can pick up an apple the fastest, using only their mouths.

Bake a Fall treat together. Have fun with your kids making caramel apples or a pumpkin pie. Check out some of the local farmer's markets for fresh, seasonal fruits or vegetables and try something new.

Go to a pumpkin patch. A lot of farms have "you pick" days where visitors can pick their own fruits and vegetables. Visit a pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin with your kids. This is a three-for-one project!  Cut a hole in the top so you can roast the seeds together, use the pumpkin flesh to make a pie, and then carve a fancy design into the shell.

Find a Fall harvest celebration. Many communities have a fall festival focusing on local produce, the leaves changing color, or just to celebrate the season. Check your community events calendar for upcoming festivals.

Get outdoors. With the weather cooling down, now is a wonderful opportunity to just spend some time outdoors. Take your kids camping, for a bike ride in the park, take a picnic, or toss a football with them in the backyard.
